A cross-border manhunt is underway after Bedfordshire Police named a 45-year-old man as the prime suspect in the brutal murders of his wife and two young daughters, whose bodies were discovered inside their home in the quiet suburb of Great Denham. Authorities confirmed Wednesday that Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, also known as Mark, fled the United Kingdom via Heathrow Airport on a British passport just one day before the grim discovery, and is now believed to be in Zimbabwe.

The victims have been identified as Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, and her daughters Natalie, 15, and Nala, five. Police forced entry into the family’s residence on Carnoustie Drive on Monday after concerned neighbors reported not seeing the family for several days. The scene has since been cordoned off, with forensic teams combing the property as friends and community members left bouquets of flowers on a nearby hedge, paying tearful tribute to a woman described as “a gracious mother.”

Detective Inspector Lee Martin of Bedfordshire Police confirmed that Tshuma left the country on Saturday, July 4, and is now the subject of an urgent international dragnet. “We know that Mark Tshuma left the country on Saturday and is now believed to be in Zimbabwe,” Martin said in a statement. “We are urgently working to find and apprehend him, and would appeal to him directly to hand himself in. Criminal investigation knows no borders.”

In a direct and emotional plea, Martin added: “Mark, unthinkable harm has been caused to those around you and this has left your relatives and friends utterly devastated. Please do the right thing, come forward and hand yourself in to local authorities.” The force is coordinating with national and international agencies, including Interpol, to track the suspect, who is known to have family ties in southern Africa.

The community has been left reeling by the tragedy. Tributes poured in from the victims’ schools. Pilgrims Pre-Prep School head Jo Webster described Nala as a “ray of sunshine” known for her inquisitive nature and “wonderful sense of humour,” noting that staff had known her since infancy. Bedford Girls’ School head Gemma Gibson remembered 15-year-old Natalie as a “bright and accomplished” student, a talented dancer, musician, and sportswoman who “had a positive impact on everyone she came into contact with.” Neighbors expressed shock that such violence could erupt in what they called “such a nice and safe area.”

As the manhunt enters its third day, police are urging anyone with information on Tshuma’s whereabouts to come forward immediately. The case has reignited debates about cross-border criminal justice cooperation and the use of British passports in international fugitive cases.
